2016
Government of Manitoba
The Province of Manitoba passed Bill 18, The Path to Reconciliation Act that acknowledges the traditional lands and territories of Indigenous peoples, the harms that have been done through colonial policies and practices, and the need to move towards reconciliation. It confirms the Government’s commitment to reconciliation, guided by the TRC's Calls to Action and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The Act is based on the principles of respect, engagement, understanding and action. It establishes a minister responsible for reconciliation as a member of the Executive Council, who will guide the development of a strategy for reconciliation, as well as the requirement to report on progress annually.
