This study aimed to determine what cultural safety looks like for individuals in acute care settings who use(d) illicit drugs and faced multiple disadvantages and how nurses could enhance the delivery of culturally safe, competent and ethical nursing care to those individuals. The research involved in-depth individual interviews with patients, nurses, acute care managers and others. Research findings highlighted five elements of culturally safe care for people who use(d) illicit drugs, with corresponding suggestions for achieving those elements of care.
