Developing culturally appropriate prenatal care models for Aboriginal women

1999

Bucharski, D., Brockman, L., & Lambert, D.

Description

In order to improve access to prenatal care for Indigenous women and reduce the vertical transmission of HIV from mothers to their babies, the Alberta Society for the Promotion of Sexual Health set out to develop a model of prenatal care that was culturally appropriate for Indigenous women, based on a review of relevant literature and key informant interviews. This article identifies key elements of that culturally appropriate model.
