This document provides background knowledge for healthcare providers, learners and educators in caring for Indigenous Peoples, with Indigenous perspectives interwoven throughout to honour Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing and to promote self-reflection. The primer serves as a resource for becoming a cultural safe healthcare provider. It is organized into 9 chapters, most of which are structured to include a cited case study, key topic areas, and references and links. Chapters focus on Indigenous knowledge, anti-racism, trauma-informed care, cultural safety, Indigenous health values, legislation and policies and their connection to social determinants of health, Indigenous health policy, and Indigenous data. The resource is downloadable from the link provided.
