The authors examined the body burden of Inuit women to organochlorine compounds present in the aquatic food chain. They analyzed the concentration of polychlorinated biphenyl congeners in milk fat samples from Arctic Quebec Inuit women and in the fat tissues of various animal species in the region and found that Inuit mothers exhibited the greatest body burden known to occur from exposure to these compounds.
