NE LHIN Aboriginal, First Nation and Métis Mental Health and Addictions Framework

2011

North East Local Health Integration Network

Description

Developed through engagement with Indigenous peoples living in the region and in partnership with local communities and the Local Aboriginal Health Committee, this document provides direction for improving access to and quality of mental health and addiction services in the NE LHIN health region. The framework is grounded in a strong commitment to respect for Indigenous self-determination and cultural perspectives in health. The plan outlines recommendations for addressing gaps in mental health and addictions services to improve the continuum of care. These recommendations focus on service integration, incorporation of traditional Indigenous and clinical approaches, support for the development of high quality, effective, and culturally safe services, enhanced knowledge exchange, and support for enhancing the skills and knowledge of service providers, among others. The framework can be downloaded via a link embedded on this attached resource.
