Description

In this study, the authors compare concentrations of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and mercury in the blood drawn from the umbilical cords of newborns born in regions whose diets rely heavily on the consumption of fish. This includes the Inuit communities of Nunavik, Baffin Island and the Mackenzie/Kitkmeot region of the Northwest Territories; the Dénés and Métis of the Northwest Territories; the Montagnais of Quebec; the coastal people living along the shores of the St. Lawrence River in Quebec; non-Indigenous people of the Northwest Territories; and residents of southern Quebec.
