Description

The authors identify a list of environmental knowledge and land skills important for safe and successful harvesting of traditional foods among Inuit men in Ulukhaktok, NWT and examine the transmission of knowledge related to these skills from older to younger generations. They find that some skills were transmitted well to younger generations, such as hunting and camp-related skills, while others related to traveling on sea ice and traditional navigation skills are not. This finding has implications for the health, safety, and the survival of Inuit languages and culture.
