What promotes social and emotional wellbeing in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children? Lessons in measurement from the Longitudinal Study of Indigenous Children

2018

Marmor, A., & Harley, D.

Description

Drawing on data from the Longitudinal Study of Indigenous Children, the authors identify early childhood factors associated with social and emotional well-being among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children ready to start school to develop a new indicator that captures a more holistic view of wellbeing. The authors' findings highlight the need to be cautious in applying Western biomedical health and well-being measures to Indigenous concepts and settings.
