The authors list the environmental knowledge and land skills that the Inuit of Ulukhaktok, Northwest Territories, need to master for safe and successful harvesting of country foods, and probe the ways that older to pass on knowledge related to these skills to younger generations. They find that some skills pass easily to younger generations, such as those related to hunting and camping, while others, such as sea ice travel and traditional navigation, prove more difficult. This finding has implications for the health, safety and survival of Inuit languages and culture.
