With the increase in frequency and intensity of wildfires caused by climate change, emergency evacuations are becoming more frequent for Indigenous communities in Canada and come with a wide variety of health effects. and social impacts at individual, family and community levels. This article examines the role of family, social support, and belonging during an evacuation of a wildfire that targeted a First Nation in northern Ontario. It highlights the challenges faced as residents are spread across 12 host communities across Ontario, which has tested their resilience.
