Biography of Deanna Nyce, member of the Advisory Committee

Championing higher education for the Nisga'a

Deanna Nyce is President and Chief Executive Officer of Wilp Wilxo’oskwhl Nisga’a Institute. She is Tsimshian and through marriage, is a member of the Nisga’a First Nation. She lives and works on Nisga’a homelands. Dr. Nyce has a Bachelor of Education, a Master of Education (Education Administration), and a PhD Interdisciplinary (all University of BC credentials). Dr. Nyce is one of the five key figures who created the Wilp Wilxo'oskwhl Nisga'a (Nisga'a university-college) and its Federated Agreement with UNBC.

Deanna was the recipient of the Aboriginal Woman of Distinction Award and the Forging of our Future with Education Award. In 2025, Dr. Nyce received the King Charles III Medal.
