An eminent Innu surgeon and health care advocate paving the way for First Nations people to pursue careers in medecine in Quebec

Dr. Stanley Vollant is an Innu from Pessamit First Nation and an eminent surgeon and a respected health care leader in Quebec. A pioneer and inspirational role model, Dr. Vollant became Quebec’s first Indigenous surgeon in 1994, paving the way for many First Nations people to pursue careers in medicine. With more than 30 years of clinical experience in various hospitals, Dr. Vollant has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to providing quality care and promoting better cross-cultural understanding in health care.

Dr. Vollant currently holds the position of Chief Medical Officer at the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Health and Social Services Commission. He also sits on the Board of Directors of the new Santé Québec agency, where his expertise and experience play a pivotal role in informing public health policies and initiatives in Québec.

In recognition of such significant impact and leadership, L’Actualité named Dr. Vollant one of the 100 most influential people in Quebec. His various commitments have also earned him a nomination to the Council of the Ordre du Québec and the Order of Canada and numerous honorary awards from various medical and community institutions. He was also a recipient of the National Aboriginal Award in Health in 2004.
