Storytelling and the arts as powerful sites of knowledge exchange

Kiera Kowalski is a Michif (Red River Métis) woman and a citizen of the Manitoba Métis Federation. Originally from Fort Frances, Ontario, she now resides in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Health, Aging and Society at McMaster University, where her research examines Red River Métis perspectives of autism. 

Kiera holds a Master’s degree in Development Practice from the University of Winnipeg and a combined Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Communication Studies from Carleton University. She has extensive experience coordinating community-led research projects across academic and private sectors, with a particular focus on Indigenous health and well-being. Her work is grounded in relational approaches that honour First Nations, Inuit and Métis self-determination, and she values storytelling and the arts as powerful sites of knowledge exchange, identity expression, and collective discovery.
