A public health nurse honouring Cree customs and traditions

Pauline Dreaver, better known to all as Sunshine Dreaver, currently lives and works in Prince Albert on Treaty Six territory in Saskatchewan.

Sunshine is committed to and actively involved in the ongoing work of the Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA). A Registered Nurse of 16 years and currently a Public Health Nurse for NITHA her work is grounded not only in the prevention and promotion but also focuses on providing culturally appropriate care and creating awareness. Her upbringing allows her to honor the Cree customs and traditions through ceremony and dance; this guides her in finding balance of both traditional and western healthcare lens.

She approaches her work with humility, recognizing that she does not do this work alone. She is grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with many dedicated healthcare professionals across Saskatchewan and Canada who she learns from every day. She values the knowledge, experience, and perspectives of her colleagues and believes that strong partnerships and shared learning are essential to providing meaningful, culturally responsive care for First Nations communities.
