Indigenous-led climate action: Assessing land changes and the links to health

December 2025

This fact sheet is one in a series of two that showcase the links between climate action and public health. Together, the National Collaborating Centre for Indigenous Health and Whitefish Lake First Nation #128 (WFL #128) in Treaty Six territory explore the connections between WFL #128’s climate action projects and protecting and promoting the health and well-being of Indigenous Peoples and communities. In this fact sheet, we focus on WFL #128’s land change assessment which looks into how different land types have changed over time and the effect this has had on habitats for wildlife and plants. Connections are drawn between the assessment’s findings and health, such as land covers and their mental health benefits, and plants and their medicinal properties. The fact sheet concludes with insights from related research about climate adaptation strategies and offers considerations for future analysis.
