Council of the Atikamekw of Manawan & the Council de la Nation Atikamekw
Responding to the racism experienced by Joyce Echaquan at the Joliette Hospital Center in Lanaudière, Quebec and her resulting death, the Council of the Atikamekw of Manawan and the Council de la Nation Atikamekw issued "Joyce's Principle", which calls on governments to commit to guaranteeing equitable access, without discrimination, to all social and health services for Indigenous people and the right for them to enjoy the best possible holistic health. It outlines an action plan for the Government of Canada and provincial and the Quebec Government in relation to health and social services provision.
