This article advocates for the adoption of a cultural safety approach for family medicine practitioners in their interactions with Indigenous patients. The article discusses Indigenous peoples' colonial history, the obligation of family medicine practitioners to Indigenous patients, why the cultural sensitivity approach is inadequate, what cultural safety is, and how it can be incorporated into family medicine residency training.
