Thunderbird Partnership Foundation
Developed in partnership with First Nations, this framework presents a shared vision for culturally safe First Nations mental wellness programs and services and steps for achieving that vision. The model is rooted in culture as the foundation for improved mental wellness, and requires enhanced flexible funding, collaboration with partners, quality care and competent service delivery, and community development, ownership and capacity building for implementation. Its vision is to support a systems or strengths-based approach that engages across governments, services sectors, and other stakeholders to strengthen mental health programming for First Nations towards a mental wellness continuum of care by coordinating efforts. The tool can be used to support intersectoral discussions on the social determinants of health, determine the mental wellness impacts of programs, and identify better ways of working collaboratively and effectively; and by communities to assist them in community planning and identify links, relationships and contributions in mental wellness services.
