This article describes the Islands of Safety model for restoring dignity in violence-prevention work with Indigenous families. The model, co-created by the authors in conjunction with the Metis Community Services in Victoria, BC, resembles family group conferencing but is based on the understanding that people resist violence and prefer respect.
