Jordan's Principle: The struggle to access on-reserve health care for high-needs Indigenous children in Canada

2017

Chambers, L., & Burnett, K.

Description

The authors examine how the federal system has ensured Indigenous Peoples, especially on-reserve Indigenous children, remain without access to basic medical services despite the implementation of Jordan's Principle. They sketch the breadth of social and economic inequities that exist for Indigenous Peoples in Canada and how they translate into health inequities; provide historical context with regard to government policy, health care, and medical services for Indigenous people; and then discuss Jordan's Principle on ensuing litigation.
