Medical Experimentation and the Roots of COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy among Indigenous Peoples in Canada

2021

Mosby, I., & Swidrovich, J.

Canadian Medical Association

Description

The authors discuss the colonial origins of vaccine hesitancy among First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples in Canada and the impacts this has for COVID-19 vaccination. They argue that cultural safety is essential for improving trust in mainstream health services and care providers, and in turn, overcoming mistrust as a barrier to vaccination in Indigenous communities.
