The invisible children of child welfare: Legislation, policy and governance models for Métis child welfare

2017

Carrière, J., & Richardson, C.

Description

This chapter describes some of the legislative barriers that exist in Canada in relation to the development of Métis-specific services for children and families, and examines how the Manitoba Métis Child and Family Services Authority serves as a model for Métis child welfare governance in Manitoba and Canada. The chapter concludes by making recommendations for child welfare reform that upholds the inherent rights of Métis children and families to receive culturally safe and relevant child welfare services.
