Time Trends of Persistent Organic Pollutants and Heavy Metals in Umbilical Cord Blood of Inuit Infants Born in Nunavik (Québec, Canada) Between 1994 and 2001

2003

Dallaire, F., Dewailly, E., Muckle, G., & Ayotte, P.

Description

The authors investigate time trends of persistent organic pollutants and trace metals in the umbilical cord blood of Inuit infants from three communities in Nunavik. They find reductions of specific contaminants, mercury and lead over time, but no clear linear or exponential trend. This finding could be explained by a decrease in food contamination, changes in dietary habits, or a combination of both factors.
