Drawing from a review of the literature and qualitative research with Oji-Cree Elders in the Sioux Lookout Zone, the authors identify traditional practices in maternity care and highlight the importance of understanding the needs of First Nations women and initiating appropriate programming that acknowledges and respects traditional birthing practices.
