Description

This study aims to address a knowledge gap on the experiences of being an Indigenous medical student or graduate, with a view to better understanding the factors that affect course attrition rates. The authors surveyed individuals who identified as First Nations, Inuit or Métis who had been admitted to the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Medicine between 1980 and 2008, focusing on the support systems they had available, their perceptions of quality of life, their experiences of racism at and beyond medical school, and the role that Indigenous identity played in their student and/or practice experiences.
