This report presents findings from an environmental scan of curriculum and initiatives to improve cultural competency and safety of health professionals working with First Nations, Inuit and Métis patients. After providing an overview of related concepts, the report identifies core competencies for public health developed in Canadian graduate public health, undergraduate medicine and undergraduate nursing education programs, as well as in professional training and continuing education programs. It also discusses the implications of the Tripartite First Nations Health Plan for cultural safety in Indigenous health services in BC and Health Canada projects that relate to Indigenous health service improvement, cultural competency and cultural safety.
