Motherhood Initiative
This article discusses the social, political, and economic barriers that Mi'kmaq women face in accessing safe and effective childbirth care, based on a study exploring Mi'kmaq women's childbirth experiences in a large tertiary care centre in Nova Scotia. The article discusses findings in four thematic areas: unpreparedness for childbirth, professional relations as sites for invalidation, access to health care, and support during birthing.
