This dissertation raises two key issues related to the adoption of two Indigenous children to non-Indigenous parents despite the ability of extended family to care for them: 1) the issue of preferencing European solutions over Indigenous ones, despite the continuing existence of parenting and child development knowledge in Ojibway culture, and 2) the reliance on premises of attachment theory in child welfare court decisions, policies and social work practice.
