This article discusses the lack of care for pregnant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in remote areas of Australia, the relocation of women for birth, and subsequent poor outcomes. The authors argue that increased use of midwives within a collaborative team would address the social, emotional and cultural health needs of these pregnant women and provide them with comprehensive quality care closer to home.
