First Nations Information Governance Centre
Drawing on a survey of primary caregivers of First Nations children, this chapter focuses on topics directly and indirectly affecting the early learning experiences of First Nations children. Indicators include: relationship of caregiver to child, caregiver attendance at residential school, grandparent attendance at residential school, household income, caregiver levels of education, household crowding, household mobility, regular child care attendance, location of child care, reasons for not using childcare, the value of learning a First Nations language, value of traditional teachings, First Nations language use by caregivers, knowledge of First Nations language by children, developmental milestones, primary language used in child care, and school outcomes.
