Description

This paper calls for the need for pandemic responses to be shaped by respect for human rights arguing that not only does it strengthen the effectiveness of responses to the immediate global health threat, it also better prepares nations for emerging from the crisis with more “equitable and sustained societies, development and peace” (p. 2). The paper summarizes current violations of human rights associated with the COVID-19 response across the globe, and presents concrete actions and practices that various stakeholders can take to ensure that pandemic responses are guided by a respect for human rights.
