This article provides a synthesis of literature on the state of Indigenous early childhood education (ECE) in Canada. It identifies key features of quality Indigenous ECE programs and the background and significance of ECE for Indigenous peoples, using cultural compatibility theory as a philosophical basis for conceptualizing quality Indigenous ECE.
