Cultural Safety Collection

An exploration of the notion and nature of the construct of cultural safety and its applicability to the Australian health care context.

2007

Johnstone, M.-J., & Kanitsaki, O.

Description

In this article, the authors report on a study that explored what healthcare providers know and understand about the notion of cultural safety, their experiences with cultural safety as a process in Australian nursing and health care contexts, and the extent to which the construct of cultural safety can be meaningfully applied in the context of Australian health care delivery. The authors conclude that the concept is poorly understood among Australian healthcare providers and unless substantially revised, cannot be meaningfully applied to the Australian cultural context.
