The authors tested fecal bacteria levels in drinking water sources in a fly-in First Nations community in Manitoba, including in buckets/drums of homes without running water, water leaving the water treatment plant, water samples from taps in homes served by cisterns, and water samples from the water truck and community standpipe. The study revealed that residents living without running water who rely on inadequate water distribution systems were exposed to high levels of bacteria, placing them at higher risk of contracting water-born illnesses.
