2021

Hulko, W., Mahara, M.S., Wilson, D., & Campbell-McArthur, G.

Description

The authors developed, implemented and evaluated culturally relevant and dementia-specific education aimed to enhance the knowledge, skills, and values of nurses to provide culturally safe dementia care with Secwepemc Elders who are experiencing memory loss. This community-based research project, informed by the perspectives of Elders from six Secwepemc communities, resulted in the development of four teaching stories that are utilized in conjunction with the San'yas Indigenous Cultural Competency training for healthcare providers. Learning outcomes are assessed using pre- and post tests of knowledge.
