In this study, the author aims to address a knowledge gap on Indigenous perspectives about early language and literacy development and the lack of culturally sensitive tools to measure and interpret these constructs. The author identifies characteristics of Indigenous parent-child language interactions in the home and community; Indigenous parents' traditional perspectives, beliefs, and values around early learning and language development in the home; and the challenges faced by Indigenous families when supporting their child's early learning and language development. She offers recommendations for supporting Indigenous language, literacy, and cultural learning in the home, school, and community.
