History of Inuit Community Exposure to Lead, Cadmium, and Mercury in Sewage Lake Sediments

2005

Hermanson, M.H., & Brozowski, J.R.

Description

The authors analyzed measures of inputs of lead, cadmium, and mercury to sewage lake sediments from two lakes near Sanikiluaq to determine community exposure to these metals over time. Study findings revealed rapid growth of these metals over the period 1970 to 1990, with daily per-person lead input exceeding the tolerable daily intake level in 1990, and cadmium and mercury inputs below the respective tolerable daily intake levels at that time.
