Description

Using a Mi'kmaw environmental 'theoretical' framework, the authors aim to fully understand the environmental health impacts of pulp mill effluent dumped into a culturally significant body of water bordering the community of Pictou Landing First Nation. The failure to use Indigenous indicators based on relational epistemology and ontology resulted in human health impacts being overlooked. The authors discuss how an Indigenous-developed framework can more adequately assess the impacts of land displacement and environmental dispossession on the health of Indigenous communities.
