This document provides a framework for understanding what distinguishes Indigenous midwifery from non-Indigenous midwifery. It articulates general areas of competence, skills, knowledge, and abilities in providing culturally safe care, supporting rites of passage, communicating, developing the profession, supporting Indigenous health and well-being, managing prenatal care, managing labour and delivery, providing postpartum care, and providing newborn care.
