Description

This paper discusses results from consultations between representatives of medical services and Inuit communities in the Keewatin district of the Northwest Territories, which aimed to evaluate policy options for perinatal health services in Inuit communities. The consultations revealed that there were marked differences between Inuit and health provider perceptions of medical safety and obstetric risk, and highlighted concerns among Inuit women about relying on southern hospitals for childbirth.
