Stemming from the author's doctoral research, this article explores the importance of identity in First Nations adoptions. It describes how connectedness relates to health for First Nation adoptees and explores the legislative, policy, and program implications of connectedness. The author found a causal relationship between connection to birth family, community and ancestral knowledge, adoption, and health and makes suggestions on how identity can be preserved through programs, policies, and practices.
