This article describes a cluster-randomised controlled trial that will compare communities receiving the usual care with communities where traditional midwives receive additional support to the usual care. Measured outcomes include changes in birth and pregnancy complications, changes in gender violence, access to healthcare, and engagement with traditional cultural activities.
