The EPDS and Australian Indigenous women: A systematic review of the literature

2021

Kotz, J., Marriott, R., & Reid, C.

Description

The authors conducted a systematic review of the literature to assess the effectiveness, validity, reliability, and cultural safety of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale for use with Indigenous Australian women. The scale has been considered the gold standard in perinatal mental health screening and is recommended for universal use. With no evidence that the scale had been validated for use with this population, the authors called for urgent work to evaluate and develop a culturally meaningful mental health screening tool.
