The authors provide a critical review and analysis of academic literature on how Indigenous Peoples have participated in environmental monitoring and whether this participation influenced monitoring objectives, indicators, methods, and monitoring outcomes. They also examine how power, governance, and the use of both Indigenous and scientific knowledge are included in environmental monitoring efforts.
