Description

The authors present findings from a study examining the perspectives of Red River Métis citizens in Manitoba regarding the H1N1 and COVID-19 pandemics and how governments and health authorities communicate risk management decisions. The decision to prioritize Métis citizens for vaccination during the H1N1 pandemic but not COVID-19 was perceived differently by citizens, yet both sets of perceptions were grounded in a common colonial context. The authors argue that this overarching colonial context must be considered when making and communicating risk management decisions with Indigenous Peoples.
