Guest Blog: Post-COVID-19 Indigenous Economic Recovery - Reconciliation in the Energy Transition

2021

Savic, K., & Hoicka, C.

Description

Drawing on findings from a qualitative study identifying the value of grid-connected renewable energy projects with Indigenous community involvement, the authors make the case that the post-COVID period offers an opportunity to rebuild the economy in a more inclusive way by uplifting historically marginalized communities. They argue that greater Indigenous ownership and control of renewable energy projects would not only aid economic recovery, it would do so in a way that addresses the climate crisis while contributing to reconciliation and self-determination.
