The author provides her perspective on the advocacy and bravery of the Grassy Narrows First Nation, whose leadership fought to expose the health impacts wrought by mercury contamination of the English-Wabigoon river system by the Dryden Chemical Company in Ontario between 1962 and 1970. She draws on studies undertaken by Mergler and colleagues to examine the intergenerational effects of mercury contamination among Grassy Narrows First Nation mothers and the mental health of their children.
