Resetting Normal: Lessons from the Pandemic - Building Intersectional Gender Justice in Post-Pandemic Canada

2021

Canadian Women's Foundation, & Hill, D.

Description

In this report, the authors present an argument that the goal of COVID-19 recovery planning should not be to return to 'normal', since this would mean returning to a state where individuals facing the worst inequities also also at the greatest risk of experiencing the most harms as a result of COVID-19. Instead, the goal should be to 'reset normal' using an intersectional gender justice lens. The authors present three key lessons derived from the pandemic that they argue will help reset normal, allowing Canada to recover from the pandemic and better prepare for future crises. These lessons focus on community care, the harmful impacts of inequality to collective health, and the utility of current leadership models.
