Situated within a body of literature exploring Indigenous Peoples' fight for having their rights recognized within the context of development, this dissertation explores the use of power, control, and the discourse of development through the lens of an environmental assessment process involving the Esketemc First Nation community and the Prosperity gold and copper mine. An analysis of the environmental assessment process illustrates how Esketemc First Nations oppose and respond to unequal power dynamics through strategies of power and resistance.
